Kersti Kaljulaid was elected the President of the Republic
Today, the Riigikogu elected Kersti Kaljulaid President of the Republic at an additional sitting. She received 81 votes at the secret ballot.
To be elected, the candidate for President needed a two-thirds majority of votes of the membership of the Riigikogu, that is, the support of at least 68 members of the Riigikogu.
98 members of the Riigikogu participated in the voting. 17 ballot papers were unmarked.
President of the Republic Kersti Kaljulaid thanked the Riigikogu for its trust and for the signatures and votes given to her. “Our cooperation will be friendly and good, I am fully convinced of that today. It is excellent capital that I will take with me to Kadriorg from here,” Kaljulaid said.Krishan Chand
